When I was seeking a GPS device, I went with the cheaper TomTom despite being advised to go with Garmin. When it works, it works great but too often my device does not connect to a GPS signal or even turn on properly. I treat my electronics with care so I do not believe it has anything to do with the way that I handle it. I bought this around last Christmas and it really only worked properly for about two months. I should have listened. Once I actually saw it power up on it's own from across the kitchen. Several times I have seen it mysteriously already turned on when I've gone to use it and yes, I know for certain that I shut it off prior. I live by myself and do not believe my property is on some native burial ground.

2. If it sets for a week or so without being plugged in, it takes a while for it to recharge so it can be used. Sometimes it will seem to drift from where one is driving showing that you are not on the road and it will keep telling you to turn to get back on the road. The Tomtom XL 330 generally does a good job of figuring out where one is at and is quite good at making a trip route. There are two things that seem to be a problem with it which are: 1.

Great item for the price. Although there have been a couple of times it has taken us 'the long way around' it does exactly what we needed it to do.

it can take me 5-10 minutes to get it to mate properly. sometimes it slides in right away, but more frequently, i have to fight it. admittedly i may be uncoordinated, but i have not had any similar problem with any other unit.it's just way too much frustration. i've tried quite a few gps units and have yet to find one that's ideal. almost all of them are better than no gps, with the possible exception of this unit.my major complaint is not with its performance per se, it's with the design of the car power adapter.

You have to go back several time to get to the main menu. I now get a stack overflow error sometime on the system as well and have not been able to figure it out. It is very easy to use and navigate.

It usually takes from two to five minutes for the GPS to locate satellites. Clean up these issues and it would be a great unit. It does not seem to matter if you clear all routes before turning it off or not it still does the same thing when you turn it on again.

Upon receiving this item I immediately open and started to use it. I downloaded a tool from Tom Tom Home that was suppose to help it located satellites faster and this has not helped. My daughter has a Tom Tom One 4.3 and her unit does not have this problem locating satellites.

However, when you go through the menus you are not able to exit back to the main menu. The main problem I have with this unit is that it takes an absurd amount of time to locate satellites one the system has been turned off.
